On October 29, 2012, Hurricane Sandy hit New York City with a ferocity that was unparalleled by any coastal storm in modern memory. Forty-three New Yorkers lost their lives, and tens of thousands were injured, temporarily dislocated, or entirely displaced by the storm’s impact. When London Hydro received a distress call from LIPA during the storm, they quickly sent 12 cars down to help assist the 8.2 million customers who were left without power.
In the case of an emergency, everything can change in a matter of seconds. Ken Walsh, Vice President of Services & Operations at London Hydro noted that “Two seconds can be crucial when it comes to responding to any natural disaster.”
